==Management== Painful Schmorl's node can be diagnosed by discography, which demonstrates an intravertebral disc herniation with concomitant back pain. Surgical treatment should be considered in a patient with persistent disabling back pain. When surgical treatment is indicated, eradication of the intervertebral disc including Schmorl's node and segmental fusion are preferable.<ref>{{cite journal |doi=10.1038/sj.sc.3101506 |pmid=14765146 |title=Painful Schmorl's node treated by lumbar interbody fusion |journal=Spinal Cord |volume=42 |issue=2 |pages=124β8 |year=2004 |last1=Hasegawa |first1=K |last2=Ogose |first2=A |last3=Morita |first3=T |last4=Hirata |first4=Y |doi-access=free }}</ref>
