===Early years=== In 1793, the National Arsenal contained brass ordnance, [[howitzers]], traveling carriages, shot strapt, canisters filled, quilted grape, iron shot, shells, powder, [[musket ball]], cylinders, caps, paper cartridges, fuzes filled, [[muskets]], swords, various military stores, and implements.<ref>{{cite web |title=A Century of Lawmaking for a New Nation: U.S. Congressional Documents and Debates, 1774β1875 |url=http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=llsp&fileName=016/llsp016.db&recNum=50 |work=Library of Congress |access-date=13 September 2010}}</ref> In 1795, the Springfield Armory produced the new nation's first musket - the [[Model 1795 Musket]] which was largely patterned after the French [[Charleville musket]] which had armed the French army during the [[American Revolution]].
