=== Crimean War (1853β1856) === In the [[Crimean War]] various forms of [[telegraphy]] played a major role; this was a first. At the start of the campaign there was a telegraph link at Bucharest connected to London. In the winter of 1854 the French extended the telegraph link to the [[Black Sea]] coast.
