The city of Coventry was virtually destroyed in the [[Coventry Blitz]] (7 September 1940 to May 1941). Tooling and machinery was recovered from the site of the devastation and production restarted at the new plant at [[Meriden, West Midlands|Meriden]], [[Warwickshire]] in 1942.<ref name="Birmingham"/>
