===2010 census===
As of the [[census]] of 2010, there were 4,646 people, 1,994 households, and 1,201 families residing in the city. The [[population density]] was {{convert|1116.8|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 2,171 housing units at an average density of {{convert|521.9|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 92.1% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.4% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.3% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.2% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.3% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 3.7% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.1% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 8.0% of the population.

There were 1,994 households, of which 26.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.4% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 39.8% were non-families. 35.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.91.

The median age in the city was 42.6 years. 23.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.1% were from 25 to 44; 25.8% were from 45 to 64; and 21.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.

As of the [[census]] of 2000, there were 4,490 people, 1,910 households, and 1,195 families residing in the city.  The population density was {{convert|1,263.6|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  There were 2,089 housing units at an average density of {{convert|587.9|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}.  The racial makeup of the city was 97.15% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.24% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.33% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.71% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.11% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.85% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.60% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.58% of the population.

There were 1,910 households, out of which 27.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% were non-families. 34.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.87.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 23.7% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.6 males.  For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $30,744, and the median income for a family was $43,350. Males had a median income of $30,053 versus $21,270 for females.
