Since the early 1990s, missionaries and other Methodists from Malaysia and Singapore established Methodist churches around major urban areas in New Zealand. These congregations came together to form the Chinese Methodist Church in New Zealand (CMCNZ) in 2003.{<ref>[https://cmcnz.org.nz/en/about/  CMCNZ website, ''About'']</ref>
