[[RTÉ Radio]] produced its first radio soap, ''Kennedys of Castleross'', which ran from April 13, 1955, to 1975.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.rte.ie/laweb/brc/brc_1950s.html |title=rte.ie |publisher=rte.ie |access-date=2012-04-27}}</ref> In 1979 RTÉ long running TV soap The Riordans moved to Radio until December 24, 1985.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.rte.ie/laweb/brc/brc_1980s.html |title=rte.ie |publisher=rte.ie |access-date=2012-04-27}}</ref> In the mid-1980s, RTÉ debuted a new radio soap, ''Harbour Hotel'', which ran until the mid-1990s.
