HID headlamp bulb types D1R, D1S, D2R, D2S and 9500 contain the toxic [[heavy metals|heavy metal]] [[mercury (element)|mercury]]. The disposal of mercury-containing vehicle parts is increasingly regulated throughout the world, for example under [https://web.archive.org/web/20101229225232/http://www.epa.gov/epawaste/hazard/wastetypes/universal/lamps/index.htm US EPA regulations].
