== Awards and honors == Neumann was elected a member of the [[Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities|Göttingen Academy of Sciences]] in 1864 and became a foreign member of that Society 1868.<ref name=":1" /> He also was elected member of the [[Prussian Academy of Sciences]] of Berlin in 1893, member of the [[Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities|Bavarian Academy of Sciences]] of Munich in 1895, and full member of the Mathematical-Physical Class of the [[Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities|Saxon Academy of Sciences]] in 1919.<ref name=":1" /> In 1897, as his father before, Neumann obtained the [[Pour le Mérite]], a Prussian [[Order of Merit]].<ref>{{Cite web |title=Neumann {{!}} ORDEN POUR LE MÉRITE |url=http://www.orden-pourlemerite.de/mitglieder/carl-gottfried-neumann?top=1&um=ms&alphabetisch=n |access-date=2024-11-26 |website=www.orden-pourlemerite.de}}</ref> Several objects developed later in mathematics are named after his [[Neumann boundary condition|Neumann problem]] including the [[Neumann–Neumann methods]] and the [[Neumann–Poincaré operator]] by [[Henri Poincaré]].
