==Administrative and municipal status==
Within the [[subdivisions of Russia#Administrative divisions|framework of administrative divisions]], Cherepovets serves as the [[administrative center]] of [[Cherepovetsky District]],<ref name="OKATO">{{OKATO reference|19 256}}</ref> although not being a part of it.<ref name="Ref1013">Resolution #178</ref> As an administrative division, it is incorporated separately as the "[[city of federal subject significance|city of oblast significance]] of Cherepovets" (one of the four in the oblast), an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the [[administrative divisions of Vologda Oblast|districts]].<ref name="Ref368">Law #371-OZ</ref> As a [[subdivisions of Russia#Municipal divisions|municipal division]], the city of oblast significance of Cherepovets is incorporated as Cherepovets Urban Okrug.<ref name="Ref923">Law #1104-OZ</ref>
