==Death== Simplot died suddenly at his home at age 99 on May 25, 2008,<ref name=jmsimapobt/> with his wife at his side, following a bout of [[pneumonia]] from which he appeared to be recovering. His death occurred moments after he had invited a friend to his home to play cards.<ref>{{cite news |url= http://www.idahostatesman.com/eyepiece/story/391275.html |title= J.R. His eldest son, Richard, died in 1993 at age 59.
