The [[2008–09 snooker season|2008–09 season]] started with a last 32 loss to [[Barry Hawkins]] in the [[2008 Northern Ireland Trophy|Northern Ireland Trophy]] and losing in the quarter-finals of the [[2008 Shanghai Masters|Shanghai Masters]] to Mark Selby. In December 2009, Fu participated in the [[2009 East Asian Games|East Asian Games]], held in Hong Kong.
