Far northern Australia was monsoonal during the Miocene. Although northern Australia is often believed to have been much wetter during the Miocene, this interpretation may be an artefact of preservation bias of riparian and lacustrine plants;<ref>{{cite journal |last1=Herold |first1=L. |last2=Huber |first2=M. |last3=Greenwood |first3=D.
