== Recognition and retirement == Bulleid was elected president of the [[Institution of Mechanical Engineers]] for 1946. He was also president of the Institution of Locomotive Engineers and of [[The Welding Institute|the Institute of Welding]], and was elected to the [[Smeatonian Society of Civil Engineers]].<ref name="IMechE">{{cite web| title=1946: Oliver Vaughan Snell Bulleid| url=http://archives.imeche.org/archive/institution-history/president-gallery/593841| access-date=3 April 2017| website=Institutions of Mechanical Engineers| date=March 2016}}</ref> He was appointed [[Commander of the Order of the British Empire|CBE]] in the [[1949 New Year Honours]].<ref name=Guardianobit /><ref>{{cite news| title=New Year Honours| url=https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/38493/supplement/11/data.pdf| access-date=3 April 2017| work=The London Gazette| issue=Supplement| date=1 January 1949}}</ref> Bulleid retired in 1958,<ref name=Guardianobit /> moving to [[Belstone]] in [[Devon]], then [[Exmouth, Devon|Exmouth]].
