===Access to courts=== Justice Stewart was a leader in trying to maintain access to federal courts in civil rights cases.<ref name=Friedman_Pg297>Friedman, Leon. Page 297.</ref> Stewart was one of the strongest dissenters in the trend of denying litigants access to the federal courts.<ref name=Friedman_Pg297/> Stewart wrote the Court's opinions in ''[[Sierra Club v. Morton]]'' (1972) and ''[[United States v. SCRAP]]'' (1973), broadly laying out the requirements of standing in federal actions.<ref name=Friedman_Pg297/>
