==Abolition and replacement== Following the [[June 2010 United Kingdom budget|June 2010 "emergency" budget]], the [[Conservative β Liberal Democrat coalition agreement|coalition government]] announced its intention to replace the RDAs by smaller-scale partnerships between [[local government in England|local authorities]] and businesses, known as [[local enterprise partnership]]s (LEPs).<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.communities.gov.uk/newsstories/newsroom/1626460|title=Councils and businesses to rebalance local economy β GOV.UK|website=Communities.gov.uk|access-date=4 August 2017}}</ref> The RDAs were abolished on 31 March 2012.
