''Troodon'' is considered to be one of the most derived members of its family. Along with ''[[Zanabazar (dinosaur)|Zanabazar]]'', ''[[Saurornithoides]]'', and ''[[Talos (dinosaur)|Talos]]'', it forms a clade of specialized troodontids.<ref name=Talos/>
