Health conditions in Cayenne and French Guiana are generally good. The principal illnesses that cause mortality are circulatory, infectious and parasitic diseases, as well as cancer. A branch of the [[Pasteur Institute]] in Paris, located in Cayenne, conducts research on tropical and endemic local diseases and is renowned throughout [[Latin America]].
