==In captivity== Cuban tree frogs are commonly available in the [[pet]] trade within the United States.<ref name="ft">{{cite book |last=Grenard|first=Steve|title=Frogs and Toads|year=2008|publisher=Wiley Publishing Inc.|location=Hoboken, New Jersey|isbn=978-0-470-16510-2|pages=95β96}}</ref> They are inexpensive, and when cared for properly tend to live five to ten years. They feed readily on any animal they can fit in their mouths, which can result in cannibalistic behavior if frogs housed together have a significant size difference.<ref name="badger">{{cite book|last=Badger|first=David|url=https://archive.org/details/isbn_9780896586741/page/76|title=Frogs|publisher=Voyageur Press, Inc.|year=1995|isbn=0-89658-674-X|location=Stillwater, Minnesota|page=[https://archive.org/details/isbn_9780896586741/page/76 76]}}</ref> Their toxic mucus can burn the eyes and trigger an allergic (or asthmatic) reaction; as a result, this species is not an ideal pet species, especially for children.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web|title=Cuban Tree Frog Facts and Information {{!}} SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment|url=https://seaworld.org/animals/facts/amphibians/cuban-tree-frog/|website=seaworld.org|access-date=2020-05-22}}</ref> The Cuban tree frog's colonization of [[Oahu]] is believed to be a result of accidental or deliberate release of pets.
