==Age== Murray cod are very long-lived, which is characteristic of many freshwater native fish in Australia.<ref name=nfacod/> Longevity is a survival strategy in variable Australian environment to ensure that most adults participate in at least one exceptional [[Spawn (biology)|spawning]] and recruitment event, which are often linked to unusually wet [[La NiΓ±a]] years and may only occur every one or two decades.<ref name=nfacod/> Murray cod are the most long-lived freshwater native fish in Australia.<ref name=CadwalladerBackhouse1983/> The oldest Murray cod aged yet was 48 years of age,<ref name="AndersonEtAl1992">{{cite journal | last = Anderson | first = J. R. |author2=Morison, A. K. |author3=Ray, D.
