===1987 speech mimicry tape rediscovered=== In September 2021, reports circulated about a rediscovered tape that originally was recorded in 1987 of a musk duck named Ripper at [[Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve]] in the [[Australian Capital Territory]], who appeared to be the first duck recorded to [[Vocal learning | mimic human speech]].<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://gizmodo.com/you-bloody-fool-says-first-talking-duck-known-to-scien-1847631335/|title = 'You Bloody Fool,' Says First Talking Duck Known to Science| date=7 September 2021 }}</ref> Reportedly, the recording demonstrates the duck saying "you bloody fool", possibly repeating a catchphrase from one of the caretakers of the reserve.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.newscientist.com/article/2289245-listen-to-an-australian-duck-say-you-bloody-fool-like-a-human//|title=Listen to an Australian duck say 'you bloody fool' like a human}}</ref> Although other bird species are capable of mimicking human speech, no other duck species is reported to have that capability.
