===Becoming Part of Indonesia===
After the [[Proclamation of Indonesian Independence|proclamation of Indonesian independence]] on August 17, 1945, the Natuna Islands became part of the newly independent Republic of Indonesia. Initially, Natuna was part of the [[Central Sumatra|Central Sumatra Province]].
