== Queer theory in philosophy ==
In the field of philosophy, queer theory falls under an adjacent category to [[Disability studies#Critical disability theory|critical disability theory]] and feminist theory for their similar approaches in defending communities discriminated against by questioning a societal status quo. Critical disability theory is a comprehensive term that is used to observe, discuss and question how people marginalized due to a difference in their social context (such as physical or mental disability as well as any other difference that would cause them to be othered in society) are treated in society.<ref name=":4" />
