Some European countries, such as the [[Netherlands]], have taken the exact opposite step due to the war in Ukraine, allowing Russians living in the Netherlands to obtain Dutch citizenship without having to travel to Russia and renounce their Russian citizenship.<ref name="balkaninsight-czech"/>
