==== Gothic ==== {{See also|Gothic language}} There was a well-established tradition in the 4th century that the Getae, believed to be Dacians by mainstream scholarship, and the Gothi were the same people, e.g., Orosius: ''Getae illi qui et nunc Gothi''. This identification, now discredited, was supported by [[Jacob Grimm]].{{sfn|Momigliano|1984|p=216}} In pursuit of his hypothesis, Grimm proposed many kindred features between the Getae and Germanic tribes.{{sfn|Hehn|1976|p=428}}
