===Pin sequence===
Some connectors are designed such that certain pins make contact before others when inserted, and break first on disconnection.<ref name="ieee" /> This is often used in [[#Power connectors|power connectors]] to protect equipment, e.g. connecting [[safety ground]] first. It is also employed for digital signals, as a method to sequence connections properly in [[hot swapping]].
