==Death== In March 1979, while he was in the hospital, Narayan's death was [[List of premature obituaries|erroneously announced]] by the Indian prime minister [[Morarji Desai]], causing a wave of national mourning, including the suspension of parliament and regular radio broadcasting, and the closure of schools and shops.
