Credit: Jeff Lesperance]] Periodic dips in a star's light curve graph could be due to an [[exoplanet]] passing in front of the star that it is orbiting. When an exoplanet passes in front of its star, light from that star is temporarily blocked, resulting in a dip in the star's light curve. These dips are periodic, as planets periodically orbit a star. Many exoplanets have been discovered via this method, which is known as the [[astronomical transit]] method.
