A family member of Bergsten also attended the hearing and requested Rogowski remain incarcerated.<ref name="Gator" /> On February 6, 2015, another parole hearing was scheduled, but Rogowski waived his right to a hearing for one year. On March 9, 2016, he was again denied parole for seven years. On December 10, 2019, multiple media reports indicated that Rogowski's parole board recommended parole. The [[California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation#Parole|California Board of Parole Hearings]] finalized the decision, and the case went before the California governor's staff for review.<ref>{{cite news |date=December 11, 2019 |title=Ex-Skateboard Champion Could Get Parole in Brutal 1991 Rape and Murder in San Diego County |url=https://ktla.com/2019/12/10/ex-skateboard-champion-could-get-parole-in-brutal-1991-rape-and-murder-in-san-diego-county/ |website=KTLA |access-date=December 29, 2019}}</ref> On April 27, 2020, Rogowski's parole grant was reversed by Governor [[Gavin Newsom]], stating Rogowski needed to gain a "deeper understanding" of his crimes,<ref>{{cite news |date=April 27, 2020 |title=Parole grant reversed for 'Gator,' former skateboard superstar convicted for 1991 rape, murder |url=https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-04-27/parole-grant-reversed-for-gator-former-skateboard-superstar-convicted-for-1991-rape-murder/ |newspaper=Los Angeles Times |access-date=April 27, 2020}}</ref> possibly in reference to statements in which Rogowski attempted to shift responsibility away from himself and onto the victim.<ref name=":0" /> In June 2022, Rogowski was granted parole with his attorney citing "the parole board's 'trained psychologist found him to be a low risk of danger to the public.'" This was to be followed by a 120-day review period by the board, and then up to 30 days for the Governor to make a final decision. However, Governor Gavin Newsom again reversed the parole board's decision, ensuring Rogowski would continue to serve his sentence.<ref name=Newsom>{{cite news |date=June 16, 2022 |title=DA fighting parole granted to former skateboard star convicted of 1991 Carlsbad rape, murder |url=https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/public-safety/story/2022-06-15/da-fighting-parole-granted-to-former-skateboard-star-convicted-of-1991-carlsbad-rape-murder |newspaper=San Diego Union-Tribune |access-date=June 16, 2022}}</ref> As of November 2024, Rogowski is incarcerated at [[Richard J.
