In the fifth novel, it is selected as the headquarters of the [[Order of the Phoenix (organisation)|Order of the Phoenix]]. A [[house-elf]] named [[Kreacher]] inhabits the house. In ''[[Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince|Half-Blood Prince]]'', Harry learns that he has inherited the property from his deceased godfather Sirius Black, and he donates it to the Order. In ''Deathly Hallows'', Grimmauld Place becomes a sanctuary for Harry, Ron, and Hermione while they are hiding from Voldemort.
