The town is home to four [[comprehensive school]]s:
[[Abersychan School]]; [[West Monmouth School]] (formerly Jones' West Monmouth [[Grammar School]] for Boys); [[St. Alban's R.C. High School]]; and [[Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw|Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw]], a Welsh Medium education school teaching students between 3 and 19 years old.

[[Trevethin Community School]] was closed at the end of the 2007 academic year. Trevethin Community School was also the original site of the Welsh Baptist College.{{citation needed|date=November 2023}} 

Having been kept open as a vaccination center during the initial COVID outbreak of 2020, Pontypool Campus [[Coleg Gwent]] (formerly known as Pontypool College) permanently closed in 2023.<ref>{{Cite web |date=2023-07-21 |title=Coleg Gwent campus used as vaccination centre to close for good in a matter of weeks |url=https://www.freepressseries.co.uk/news/23669138.pontypool-coleg-gwent-campus-close-matter-weeks/ |access-date=2024-03-11 |website=Free Press Series |language=en}}</ref> The local borough council is now considering the former campus a potential housing site.
