==Post-war== [[File:Bundesarchiv Bild 102-06939, Weimar, Beisetzung von Admiral Scheer.jpg|thumb|Scheer's funeral at Weimar, November 1928|alt=Photograph of Scheer's funeral procession; the horse-drawn hearse is accompanied by an honour guard]] Scheer wrote his memoirs of the Great War in 1919,<ref name=S401>Sweetman, p. 401</ref> which were translated into English the following year.<ref>Scheer</ref> In October 1920, an intruder broke into Scheer's house and murdered his wife, Emillie, his maid, and injured his daughter Else. The man then committed suicide in the cellar. Following the incident, Scheer retreated into solitude.<ref name=B221>Butler, p. 221</ref> He wrote his autobiography, entitled ''Vom Segelschiff zum U-Boot'' (''From Sailing Ship to Submarine''), which was published on 6 November 1925.<ref>Grange, p. 208</ref> In 1928, Scheer accepted an invitation to meet his adversary from Jutland, [[Admiral of the Fleet (Royal Navy)|Admiral of the Fleet]] Jellicoe, in England. However, at the age of 65, Scheer died at [[Marktredwitz]] before he could make the trip. He was buried in the municipal cemetery at Weimar.<ref name=B221/> His tombstone reads: {{Smallcaps|hier ruht admiral reinhard scheer}} [Here rests Admiral Reinhard Scheer] β with the dates of his life, his flag in metal applique and the single word {{Smallcaps|skagerrak}} (the German name for the Battle of Jutland).<ref>{{cite web| last = Dodge| first = Russ| title = Reinhard Scheer| url = https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/7889567| publisher = Findagrave.com| date = 23 September 2003| access-date = 29 April 2010}}</ref> The [[German cruiser Admiral Scheer|heavy cruiser ''Admiral Scheer'']] was named after Reinhard Scheer and christened by his daughter Marianne. The ship was ordered and funded by the [[Reichsmarine]] of the [[Weimar Republic]] and launched in 1933.<ref>Williamson, p. 32</ref>
