All '''1400''' engines displace {{convert|1396|cc|L cuin|1|abbr=on|disp=flip}} with bore X stroke of 75 mm × 79 mm (2.95 in × 3.11 in) and have DOHC, 16 valves and MPI. Six variations were created:

*SOHC K8 8-valve, SPI, {{convert|75|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}}
*SOHC K8 8-valve, MPI, {{convert|75|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}}
*DOHC K16 16-valve, SPI, {{convert|90|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}}
*DOHC K16 16-valve, MPI, {{convert|83|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}}
*DOHC K16 16-valve, MPI, {{convert|103|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}}

The K16 {{convert|82|hp|kW PS|0|abbr=on}} variant is exactly the same as the {{convert|103|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}} version, apart from a restrictive throttle body designed to lower the car's insurance group. This can be converted to the {{convert|103|hp|abbr=on}} model by changing to the unrestricted throttle body of a 103 engine. The {{convert|90|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}} Spi features single-point fuel injection rather than the multi-point of the later engine.
