Originally married to Pat Watson, the couple divorced after Guest fell in love with American actress [[Yolande Donlan]] who eventually became his wife in 1954; Donlan appeared in eight of his films during the 1950s.<ref name="Bergan">[[Ronald Bergan]] [https://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/jan/05/yolande-donlan "Yolande Donlan obituary"], ''The Guardian'', 5 January 2015</ref> After Guest retired in 1985, the couple lived together in retirement in California.<ref name="Hawtree"/>
