Other stations, including a variety of pay and regional free-to-air stations, were forced to broadcast in the [[Ultra high frequency|UHF]] band, since the VHF band had been very overloaded with four stations sharing a very small frequency band, which was so overcrowded that one or more channels would not be available in some smaller towns.
