Under [[Benito Mussolini]], efforts were made to purify Italian of anglicisms and other foreign words.{{citation needed|date=July 2021}} A well-known example of anglicism used in Italian is ''[[Traffic barrier|guardrail]]'', which has always been totally rooted in common usage, given that the Italian alternatives proposed in the last century such as: ''guardavia'', ''sicurvia'', ''guardastrada'' and the [[Helvetism]] ''guidovia''<ref>{{Cite web |title=Guidovia |url=https://filipponi.net/tabasio/elvetismi/g/ |publisher=Elvetismi - Ticinesismi |language=Italian}}</ref> have not met with any success, being little used.<ref>{{Cite journal |last=Migliorini |first=Bruno |date=1963 |title=Lingua e diritto.
