==Labeling== It is recommended if using adhesive-backed paper labels that the labels be specially made for CD-Rs. A balanced CD vibrates only slightly when rotated at high speed. Bad or improperly made labels, or labels applied off-center, unbalance the CD and can cause it to vibrate when it spins, which causes read errors and even risks damaging the drive.<ref>{{cite web|date=2004-07-27|title=CD-R Labeling|url=http://dpfwiw.com/cd-r.htm|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140610141742/http://dpfwiw.com/cd-r.htm|archive-date=June 10, 2014|access-date=2011-12-16|publisher=Dpfwiw.com}}</ref> [[File:Burned CD-R.jpg|thumb|200x200px|Example of burned CD-R labeled using a permanent marker.]] A professional alternative to CD labels is pre-printed CDs using a 5-color silkscreen or offset press. Using a permanent marker pen is also a common practice. However, solvents from such pens can affect the dye layer.
