[[Iowa Department of Education]]. Retrieved on July 16, 2018.</ref> Established in 1858, East Mapleton Township School was the first school in the area. The independent school district was established on May 5, 1880. A $2,200 bond approved by voters on June 15, 1880, resulted in the construction of a new school established on a site acquired for $200 on August 31, 1880.
