In the [[Estonian war crimes trials]] of 1961 and 1962, several collaborators were sentenced for participation in the [[Holocaust in Estonia|Estonian holocaust]]. Many of the accused escaped punishment by escaping into exile or by suicide. The infamous [[Karl Linnas]], who had been sentenced to death in absentia, was finally deported by the United States in 1987, and died in a prison hospital shortly after.
