In his posthumously published ''Kollektivmasslehre'' (1897), Fechner introduced the Zweiseitige Gauss'sche Gesetz or [[Split normal distribution|two-piece normal distribution]], to accommodate the asymmetries he had observed in empirical frequency distributions in many fields.
