===2008 acquisitions=== January 2008 saw iiNet recommence its acquisition strategy with the purchase of the customer base of local Perth ISP Up'n'away. This was followed in May with the purchase of rival Perth-based ISP [[Westnet]], in a friendly acquisition worth $81 million.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://westnet.com.au/internet/about/media/press/080508.aspx |title=iiNet acquires Westnet |year=2008 |access-date=2008-05-08 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080509093251/http://www.westnet.com.au/internet/about/media/press/080508.aspx |archive-date=9 May 2008 |url-status=dead }}</ref> In a departure from previous acquisitions, iiNet also announced that Westnet would continue to operate as a separate entity. However, as of 2013 some marketing copy is identical, suggesting at the very least a degree of back-office collaboration now exists. As part of the Westnet acquisition, iiNet's online gaming presence was closed in August 2008,<ref>{{cite web|url=http://games.iinet.net.au/|title=iiGames shutting down, all hail 3FL|year=2008|access-date=2008-08-18|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080807155530/http://games.iinet.net.au/|archive-date=7 August 2008}}</ref> with operations being moved to the former Westnet gaming site [https://web.archive.org/web/20080819175544/http://www.3fl.net/ 3FL].
