==Academic and civic activities== Besides a scientific career, Hanukoglu has maintained an active academic and civic leadership role. In 2003, Hanukoglu founded Israel's first B.Sc. degree program in Molecular Biology at the Ariel University Center.<ref name="Bio">Israel Hanukoglu. From 1996 to 1999 he served as the science adviser to the prime minister of Israel [[Benjamin Netanyahu]].
