In subscription-based programs, customers pay a fee to enjoy the program's benefits, for example [[Barnes and Noble]] bookstores charge members about 40 [[U.S. dollars]] per year (as of mid-2024) for its "Premium Membership and Rewards" program, which gives members a 10% discount off most merchandise.
