===Order=== Comparing the sequential order of parallel pericopes among the three Synoptics, the arrangement often varies, but some general patterns emerge. Mark nearly always follows Matthew and Luke where they agree in order and one or the other when they disagree. On the other hand, the [[Synoptic Gospels#The double tradition|double tradition]] pericopae shared between Matthew and Luke show little agreement in order.{{sfnp|Goodacre|2001|pp=37β42}} Such observations have been studied in detail for centuries, but the difficulty has been in how to interpret them.<ref>{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=yMg7LRMd4LsC&pg=PA223 | title=Arguments from Order in Synoptic Source Criticism: A History and Critique | series=New Gospel Studies | volume=7 | year=1994 | pages=223β238 | isbn=0865543992 | last=Neville | first=David J. }}</ref> Marcan priority views this order as support for Matthew and Luke each building upon Mark; Marcan posteriority, however, sees this order as proof that Mark drew alternately from Matthew and Luke. Even the [[Augustinian hypothesis]] can see Mark adapting Matthew's order, then Luke adapting Mark's order.
