In the [[United Kingdom Census 2011|2011 census]] the population of the parish was 2,339.<ref name="ons"/> In 1651 [[Charles II of England|Charles II]] passed through Bradpole in his [[Escape of Charles II|efforts to evade capture]] after he failed to sail to France from [[Charmouth]] following his defeat at the [[Battle of Worcester]]. An inscribed stone in the south of the parish, where Lee Lane meets the [[A35 road|A35 trunk road]] between Bridport and Dorchester, marks the place where he took a turning off the main road to escape from his pursuers.<ref>{{cite book|title=West Dorset|author=West Dorset District Council|publisher=West Dorset District Council|page=5|year=1982}}</ref> Bradpole is the birthplace of industrialist and [[Liberal Party (UK)|Liberal Party]] politician [[William Edward Forster]] (1818β1886),<ref>{{cite book|author=Sir Frederick Treves|title=Highways and Byways in Dorset|publisher=Macmillan & Co.|date=1905|page=260|edition=1}}</ref> who was instrumental in bringing through the 1870 [[Elementary Education Act 1870|Elementary Education Act]].
