The community is near the center of Old Bridge Township, and the community of [[Old Bridge, New Jersey|Old Bridge]] borders Brownville to the west and south. [[U.S. Route 9]] forms the western border of Brownville; the highway leads north {{convert|5|mi|0}} to [[South Amboy, New Jersey|South Amboy]] and south {{convert|11|mi}} to [[Freehold Borough, New Jersey|Freehold]]. [[County Route 516 (New Jersey)|County Route 516]] crosses the center of Brownville, leading west {{convert|3.5|mi|1}} to [[New Jersey Route 18|Route 18]] in the western part of Old Bridge and east {{convert|4|mi|0}} to the center of [[Matawan, New Jersey|Matawan]].
