In 1976 Setsuko Yonekubo temporarily took over as lead designer for Hello Kitty, after Shimizu left Sanrio. Originally, Hello Kitty was only marketed towards a child and preteen audience. In July 2008, the Dutch artist [[Dick Bruna]], creator of [[Miffy]], alleged that Hello Kitty is a copy of Miffy, being rendered in a similar style.
