On May 9, 1995, Reimer was appointed [[Manitoba Minister of Urban Affairs|Minister of Urban Affairs]] and [[Manitoba Minister of Housing|Minister of Housing]] in Gary Filmon's government. Reimer opposed efforts by the Manitoba government to provide safe injection paraphernalia to drug addicts, arguing instead for a zero-tolerance policy in such matters.
