'''Laugavegur''' ({{IPA|is|ˈlœyːɣaˌvɛːɣʏr̥}}) is a hiking [[trail]] in South [[Iceland]].<ref name="fi.is" /><ref name="ny times" /><ref name="wall street" /><ref name="lonely planet" /> It is the most popular trail in Iceland, with an estimated 75,000-100,000 people hiking it every year.<ref name="book" /><ref name="iceland review" /> In 2012, [[National Geographic]] listed it as one of the twenty best trails in the world.<ref name="national geographic" />

The route is typically completed by hikers in four days, north to south, with stops at the mountain huts of [[Hrafntinnusker]], [[Álftavatn]], and [[Emstrur]]. At least three rivers must be forded during the walk. It is possible to combine the trek with a hike over the [[Fimmvörðuháls]] route from Þórsmörk to [[Skógar]].<ref name="fi.is" /> 

The trail is clearly signposted throughout its length. However, adverse weather conditions such as thick fog or heavy snow can dramatically reduce the visibility. This is particularly relevant for the first two sections of the trail.<ref name="fi.is" /> 

The trail is open from the end of June 25 to mid September, when the huts close.

The [[Laugavegur Ultramarathon]] has been held annually on the trail since 1997.<ref name="ultra" />

The '''Laugavegur''' is a trekking route in South-West [[Iceland]] from the hot springs area of [[Landmannalaugar]] ({{coord|63.991246|-19.060342|format=dms}}) to the glacial valley of [[Þórsmörk]] ({{coord|63.702657|-19.427149|format=dms}}). It is noted for the wide variety of landscapes on its {{convert|55|km|mi|abbr=on}} path. The route is typically completed over 2–4 days with potential stops at the mountain huts at [[Hrafntinnusker]], [[Álftavatn]], [[Hvanngil]] and [[Emstrur]]. The [[Laugavegur Ultramarathon]] is held on the route each July. It is possible to combine the trek with the [[Fimmvörðuháls]] route which goes over the pass from [[Þórsmörk]] to [[Skógar]] for an additional one or two days or an additional {{convert|25|km|mi|abbr=on}}. [[Landmannalaugar]], [[Þórsmörk]], and [[Skógar]] are all reachable by bus during the summer. A bus from [[Hella,_Iceland | Hella]] connects with [[Álftavatn]] once a day during the summer.
