It is situated on the west bank of the [[River Truro|Truro River]] approximately two miles (3 km) south of [[Truro]].<ref>Ordnance Survey: Landranger map sheet 204 ''Truro & Falmouth'' {{ISBN|978-0-319-23149-4}}</ref> This and the nearby village of [[Kea, Cornwall|Kea]] are said to have been named after the [[Saint Kea]] who arrived at Old Kea from Ireland in the 5th century.<ref>[http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Cornwall/Kea/] GENUKI website; Kea; retrieved May 2010</ref> The manor of "Landighe" (Landege) is recorded in the [[Domesday Book]] (1086) when it was held by Godwin from [[Robert, Count of Mortain]]. There was one hide of land and land for 5 ploughs. There were one and half ploughs, 3 serfs, 2 villeins, 4 smallholders, 2 acres of meadow, 3 acres of woodland, one square league of pasture, 2 cattle, 40 sheep and 15 goats.
